As I prepare for the coming High Holy Days, I join with our Cantor, Dr. Robert Winter, our Educator, Joan Hersch, Faculty and Staff in wishing you a happy healthy New Year. For many reasons, the coming New Year, 5769, is very special. At the end of this coming year I will be retiring from my service as Rabbi to the Congregation. It is my goal to work with you to honor our tradition and build for the future. We will honor our tradition by maintaining the care and concern for each individual who wants to come through the door because they are searching for spiritual meaning and desire to connect with our tradition and our people. I hope that the doors of Brothers of Israel will always be open to seekers and those who wish to learn the Eternal Teaching of our Holy Torah. We build for the future by enabling a positive and creative transition. We must recognize that the needs of young families today are not the same as fifty years ago. Our Jewish society, like America, has changed because of new technology, ideas and evolving culture. We must enable those who come after us to feel that they are empowered to build for the future by understanding their needs. I hope that this year of transition will be successful to meet the challenges that we face as a synagogue, as Americans, and as individuals. L’Shanah Tovah, Rabbi Howard Hersch
