The month of May brings to mind spring and of course Mother’s Day. We take the time to honor our mothers (and mother-in-laws) or sadly we remember them. Recently we honored the “mother” of the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism, Mathilde Schechter at Founder’s Day. Our Sisterhood was one of the Sisterhood’s that was honored for our support of Torah Fund. It was a lovely day and I would encourage you to join us next year. We had our own celebration- in honor of Donna Nowicki- to support Torah Fund. The day was certainly warm and memorable as many of us spoke of our respect, gratitude and affection for Donna. Thanks to our Torah Fund Chair Judi Young and a great committee: Andrea Kornblum, Sharon Segarra and Carol Schwartz the day was special. Donna, mazel tov again. Our sincere appreciation goes to Elise Braverman-Plotkin who spoke so eloquently about the Jewish Theological Seminary. This month at Moonbeams we welcome the new month of Sivan. It is special because the holiday of Shavuot takes place, commemorating the Jews receiving the gift of the Torah from God. We will celebrate the Rosh Chodesh at my home on Thursday, May 13th. Please let me know by telephone or by email if you can attend. We also look forward to our Confirmation Ceremony taking place on May 18th at 7:30 pm. Would you like to help Sisterhood with Mitzvah Bags tossed at B’nai Mitzvahs? Please let me know via email or telephone. (Sisterhood buys the candy and makes the bags for each child’s bar or bat mitzvah.) I am working on setting up a Summer Mah Jongg League for all interested players. Before we begin there will be a few teaching sessions. Let me know if you are new or “rusty” and would like to be included in the Beginners group.
